Peugeot 208 review

The Peugeot 208 is a sleek and stylish car, recently updated to give that little bit of ‘wow’ for the beholder, but how does this affect the car itself?

Exterior

The combination of the muscular contours and the new two-tone headlamps, give this car a definite feline quality. The rear full LED light clusters have been redesigned to incorporate the Peugeot 3D ‘claws’, further enhancing the cat look. The striking look of this car has also been improved by the new front bumper and the wider fully integrated grille.

The Peugeot 208 comes in a wide choice of finishes, so you’ll be able to find the perfect one for you. It even comes with the options of a ‘textured paint’ finish of Ice Silver or Ice Grey to create a great statement as you drive around. These colours are both available in a choice of matt or satin appearance and reflect the changes in light to emphasise the stylish lines that make this car stand out from the crowd.

This car is available with either three or five doors but, for a little extra, you can make the Peugeot 208 your own by selecting the laser-engraved door handles – just one of the many personalisation offers that Peugeot has to offer.

Interior

Peugeot’s i-Cockpit is natural and intuitive. The logical layout and easy-to-use buttons make you feel right at home in the Peugeot 208, and the little gadgets on the large touch screen improve your driving experience exponentially.

Your touch screen acts as mission control – you can control most aspects of the car with your fingertips. Audio, communications and navigation systems are all available at the touch of a button. Consider investing in Peugeot Connect (available in models Active and above). You’ll receive a USB key with the whole range of Peugeot Connect Apps that will keep you safe and entertained whilst you’re on the road. The key will give your car 3G connectivity, turn it into a GPS receiver and help you on your way. Simply insert it into your car and you’ll be able to fully control the driving aids, receive live traffic updates, get help with parking and information about points of interest near you. It’s used exactly like a smartphone, so there won’t be any confusing buttons or mishaps with this excellent new piece of technology.

The Peugeot 208 cockpit was designed with comfort and desirability in mind; the compact steering wheel is comfortable to use and gives the driver more space. If you opt for the Active trim level your steering wheel will be trimmed in full-grain leather, and then if you go for the Allure option you’ll get a different seat material that has been carefully created just for you.

There are many personalisation options with the Peugeot 208, and they all offer a modern premium feel that was created with great attention to detail. You can choose sports seats with contrast stitching, satin chrome air vent finishers, grained dashboard moulding and much more. Without all of these extras, the Peugeot 208 cockpit is still a well-designed and stylish interior. The spattering of chrome around the cabin gives the car a sense of finesse and elegance, whilst the well-thought out placement of each item proves the car’s practicality.

Families may prefer the five door Peugeot 208, but in reality both cars have good rear passenger and boot space. They both even have ISOFIX fittings for child seats so that your little ones will be safe whilst you’re on the move.

On the road

This sporty little car is great for the city. Its light steering is perfect for tight manoeuvres and parking in awkward spaces. It can zip round at quite a speed thanks to the punchy engine that sits comfortably under the hood.

The Peugeot 208 has a number of engines on offer, all of which meet the Euro 6 emission standards. The BlueHDi engines are now the most efficient diesel engines on the market, and the 1.6l engine is now available with three of the power level choices. For petrol drivers, one of the three PureTech three-cylinder engines will be right for you, and if you prefer an automatic, the EAT6 six-speed automatic gearbox will get you moving in the right direction.

As well as the entertainment technology, the Peugeot 208 also comes with lots of safety features that give you peace of mind whilst driving. These include:

• Stop and Start system
• Active City Brake
• Electronic Stability Control
• Peugeot Mirror Screen
• Park Assist
• Reversing Camera

Our Verdict

This is a great car for driving through town, and it’s really easy with Peugeot’s ‘Just add fuel’ scheme. This includes 3 years’ insurance, warranty, servicing, car tax and roadside assistance, so when you get your car you just need to add the fuel and you can be on your way. Simple!

The punchy engines make the Peugeot 208 an interesting drive, and the muscular cat-like appearance makes it stand out on the road. For a safe and comfortable drive, look no further.
