Perrys raises over £10,000 in charity auction

The Viva sold for over £7,100 on Sunday the 19th of January at the end of its 10 day auction- and was handed over by the same Perrys salesman who sold the car new in 1977!

A delighted Norman Bowie who won the final bid on the Viva, explains how he found the Viva by pure chance:

"My son delivers newspapers and had an extra magazine at the end of his round, that’s where I first saw the article about the Viva. When I saw the car on the internet it reminded me of Dad’s old car. The colour is exactly the same. I knew he would like it. My dad loves Vauxhall’s and used to own a Vauxhall Vector"

Norman purchased the Viva as a surprise for his father Jim (75) who knew nothing about the charity auction.

Norman’s father has owned 5 Vauxhalls over the years and is looking forward to owning another.

On Sunday the 26th of January 1 week after placing the final winning bid Norman made his way down to Perrys Vauxhall Preston dealership to surprise his father Jim with the Viva.

Jim was delighted when son Norman announced he had purchased the car for his dad.

Jim Said: "Absolutely fantastic. It has made my day, it was a complete shock. I am overwhelmed by it all. It is a great surprise"

Norman and his father Jim are planning on taking the car to car shows and may even make a visit back to Perrys occasionally with the car to say hello!

Perrys Sales Executive David Totty who originally sold the car new in 1977, was there to hand over the keys again; this time to Norman and Jim.

David said: "The viva was an exciting car at the time, it had a modern look and its styling was so ahead of its time. As a Sales Executive the Vauxhall Viva was a great car to sell because of its unique appearance."

Alongside the Viva Perrys also auctioned: a HD Fire Kindle, Samsung Galaxy Tablet, iPad Air, a Signed England shirt, Signed Stirling Moss Steering Wheel with a personalised message to the winner from Sir Stirling Moss and Ferrari Goodies, Signed Barnsley Shirt.

Perrys Chairman Ken Savage said: "We’re delighted the Vauxhall Viva managed to raise over £7,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. The Vauxhall Viva has really captured people’s imagination at all of the events held and we’d like to thank everyone for their generous support for such a great cause".
