Kia Rio scores five stars in latest Euro NCAP test
The Kia Rio has impressed Euro NCAP in its recent crash test by scoring a maximum five star safety rating from the European safety institution.
The Euro NCAP report was positive overall but the Rio's performance in the side impact protection tests came in for particular praise.
According to NCAP, "dummy readings showed good protection of all body areas" after the side barrier test.
The Kia Rio also fared well in the adult occupant, with 92 per cent and child occupant (84 per cent) tests which put the car through a number of different tests and monitor the impacts of any collisions on child or adult safety dummy's.
Kia's supermini also performed well in the safety assist (86 per cent) protection tests. The safety assist tests rate how well the cars safety features protect the car and its occupants, which include things like airbags.
It's no surprise that the Kia Rio scored five stars with extensive safety equipment that includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard. With ESC as standard this proves beneficial not only for safety, but because ESC will be mandatory in 2012 for all new vehicles going into production.
