Fiat 500 Ron Arad Edition on sale now
Fiat has revealed a distinctive new special edition 500 supermini, inspired by and designed in conjunction with artist and lifelong Fiat fan Ron Arad Edition.
Instantly recognisable thanks to its unique graphic, which shows the outline of an original 1957 Fiat 500 superimposed on the side, only 200 examples will be released, with pricing starting from £16,000.
Unique paintwork and graphics
Available in an artful metallic black with white graphics exclusively, the Fiat 500 Ron Arad Edition also features matching white door mirror casings and a glass sunroof.
The interior features black leather seats with an ivory trim, plus a leather steering wheel, seven-inch touchscreen instrument panel and Fiat’s smartphone-compatible Blue&Me infotainment system.
Other features include steering-mounted audio controls, an automatic climate control system and front fog lights, plus 16-inch alloy wheels and an exclusive 1:18-inch scale miniature of the car.
Israeli-born artist Arad is perhaps best known for his industrial-themed installations created from all sorts of welded, battered and smashed-up metal, as well as for his unique In Reverse series.
Exhibited in the Lingotto complex in Turin, where thousands of Fiat cars were tested, In Reverse features works of art formed from original Fiat 500 cars squashed flat by a 500-tonne press.
First becoming fascinated with the Fiat 500 as a child, the first squashed car created by the artist had originally served as his family car for years after he purchased it on a whim in Rome.
He said: “Every day I’d look at it. I would say, ‘One day you’ll become art.’ We’re not destroying the cars, we’re immortalising them.
“The car is a national symbol for Italy and our generation, and it’s a very endearing vehicle.”
New Fiat 500 Vintage '57
This is the second special edition Fiat 500 revealed in a week, after the manufacturer unveiled the Fiat 500 Vintage ’57, a retro homage to the original 500 models unveiled in 1957.
A contemporary take on the original, the Vintage ’57 is packed with unique and styling features like a pastel-coloured paintwork, a white roof and unique vintage-style 16-inch alloy wheels.
Standard kit includes air conditioning, start-stop technology and electronic stability control, along with a hill holder function that prevents the car from rolling backwards during hill starts.
Alongside that, the Vintage ’57 also features seven airbags for occupant safety, along with the same hands-free Blue&Me infotainment system that features in the Ron Arad Edition.
Due to make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show this week, the Fiat 500 Vintage ’57 will go on sale in April, priced from £12,545, while the Ron Arad Edition is available to buy now.
