What is a factory order?
A factory order is an order placed directly with the manufacturer, for a specific customer.
There can be number of reasons why you may want to place a factory order; for example, you could be looking for a specific car model which you can't find in your local Perrys dealership, a specific colour, or even trim.
How long does a factory order take?
There are several stages involved with a factory order. Once you've placed your order this will join a queue with other orders awaiting a ‘build’ date. This date is subject to a series of factors such as manufacturer, customisation level, production scheduling, parts supply, etc. It's also important to take into account where is the car being made as if it's from a UK manufacturer, it will naturallt take less time than an order shipped from Japan or Mexico, where the timeframe could be months, rather than weeks.
Should I make a factory order or buy from dealer stock?
That depends on a number of factors.
- How specific is your requirement?
Car dealers can either hold, or have access to, a great deal of stock and therefore, if you are willing to consider things like alternative trim, colour or even a different model, then it makes sense to buy from the dealership.
- Are you after a particular model spec?
If you have specific requirements that can’t be met by the dealership, then a factory order makes sense. Some manufacturers will provide customers with a vast choice of customisation options.
- Does the car need to be a certain colour?
Dealerships tend to only stock the most popular colours choices, so if your heart is set on something niche, you may need to place a factory order.
- Do you need the car immediately?
If the answer is “Yes”, then buying from dealer stock is the way to go. The dealership will obviously need a week or so to prepare and register the vehicle for you and where available, may also offer delivery of the vehicle.
Are factory orders more expensive?
Yes; buying a car that’s built to your exact specification is going to be more expensive than buying from dealer stock. Car dealers buy vehicles in bulk and because of this, manufacturers offer discounts. This gives us the ability to pass savings onto our customers.
Can I change my order at a later stage?
Potentially, it would depend on how far your order has gone through the order process. The best thing to do in this instance is give us a call and we can take a look and see if the factory will allow you to change your order.
