Charging forward with Perrys Motability

The most convenient and cost-effective way to charge your electric car is at home.

If you’re getting your first electric vehicle through the Motability Scheme, there’s some great news – you could have a free home charge point installed! This makes switching to an EV even easier, giving you the convenience of charging at home without extra cost.

A home for your charge point

If this is your first fully electric car on the Motability Scheme, and your property is suitable for a home charger, we can arrange the delivery and installation of a 7kW charge point as part of your lease package.

But there’s a couple of things you may want to consider beforehand…

  • If you rent your home, you’ll need permission from your landlord to have a charge point installed at the property.
  • Charge points can be installed at another driver’s address, but their permission and Perrys’ will be required first.
  • Some people need their electricity supply de-looped from their neighbour. If this is needed, the cost of this isn’t included in your lease package.
  • You’ll need to arrange details with your energy provider.
  • During the time of your vehicle lease, if you move house and require a new charge point, you’ll need to pay for it.
  • Our charge points come with a three-year warranty which covers faults or replacement. Once the warranty has ended, you can buy more from the charge point provider.

Getting your home charge point

The process is simple and straightforward: follow the stages below to make sure you’ve got everything covered in preparation for your charge point arriving.

  1. Application approved

Once Perrys have approved your Motability application for your first EV, we’ll allocate you to your charge point provider who’ll get in contact with you within three working days.

  1. Fill out the survey

You’ll receive an email or text from your charge point provider who will ask you to send over some key information and photos. If you’re unable to complete the survey, you must let your charge point provider know.

To prepare for the survey:

  • Find your Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) on your electricity bill. This is usually called ‘Supply number’ and is 21 digits long – it looks like this <insert image>
  • Take pictures – You’ll need to think about where the charge point will go. Include things like your parking space, the fuse box, the electric meter, the earth bonding, the fuse cut-out, the water bonding and the gas bonding.
  1. Your charge point installation

Your charge point provider will have organised an installation date and time with you to ensure that you’re home. Installers always carry identification with them, so you’ll know it’s them.

The installation process can take anywhere between two and five hours. If the charge point is being fitted not too far from your main fuse box it’ll take less time, but if groundworks or electric updates are needed, then it can take longer.

Your installer will ensure that you’re comfortable with how your charge point works and demonstrate how to use it. Further support is available after your installation is complete; don’t hesitate to get in touch with your charge point installer if needed.
