Vauxhall Mokka review
We’ve all seen the adverts; the Vauxhall Mokka swoops in to save the poor unfortunate soul trying to cycle through the hills, or battle through the rain to get to the office on time. It’s a hugely versatile car with lots of options to make it perfect for your lifestyle. Let’s take a look.
The muscular and athletic stance of the Vauxhall Mokka is combined with the elegantly sculpted surfaces makes this car striking and powerful, whilst appealing to car-lovers everywhere.
The wonderful thing about this car is the amount of choice you get. It’s available with a diesel or a petrol engine, with 2 or 4 wheel drive, an automatic or manual gearbox and a whole host of additional extras that will only improve the driving experience.
The interior of the Vauxhall Mokka is spacious and airy. It can comfortably fit five people, and even the tallest of your friends will be able to sit in the back seats without crushing their knees.
The front seats have the ability to adjust for your posture – you can fine-tune the lumbar adjustment and extend the seat cushion, giving you excellent and much needed support for those long drives.
Part of the reason the Mokka can now do this is because Vauxhall has replicated the best parts of the Astra’s uncluttered dashboard. It’s simpler, sharper and more precise; most elements are controlled by the 7- or 8-inch touchscreen so there is no need to strew pesky buttons all over the place. The Mokka also has 19 storage compartments in the cabin and boot, and the option to fold down the 60/40 seats to create even more boot space.
As with most of the Vauxhall range, the Mokka is fitted with OnStar – the personal connectivity and service assistant straight from the USA! This includes automatic crash response and roadside assistance, and you can even get an app for your smartphone that provides remote vehicle diagnostics. You can also use the OnStar system as a powerful 4G wifi hotspot for up to 7 devices in the car.
The infotainment system includes, as standard: a digital radio with 7 speakers, a CD player, aux-in socket, USB interface and Bluetooth. You can also opt for a Navi 950 intellilink sat nav that will use the infotainment screen to get you to your final destination.
All the models of the Vauxhall Mokka feature electronic climate control as standard, and offer a “dualzone” approach that means your passenger can have a cooler temperature, while you can bask in the heat on your side of the car. Selected models also have heated seats and a heated steering wheel that comes in handy during those cold winter months!
On the road
This is a really practical car. You can fit you, your kids, their PE kits, their friend’s kits and two large dogs in it and still have room for the weekly shop! This car can really become part of the family as it’s built for both city driving and rampaging round the countryside.
What’s even more impressive is how quiet the car is. The ‘Whisper’ Diesel engine lives up to its name, as the car only emits a low hum whilst you’re powering down the motorway.
The Vauxhall Mokka has a couple of gadgets that make driving this car a smooth ride for all involved, including the hill start assist – it keeps your brakes engaged for two more seconds while you’re pressing down on the accelerator when you’re on an incline. Those extra two seconds mean that you’ll set off easily with no danger of roll back whatsoever.
One of the possible added extras is a rear view camera that shows on the infotainment screen. It’s really useful especially when combined with the rear parking sensors that come as standard.
The car handles well and its elevated seats give you a good view of the road and its surroundings. Overall it’s a smooth drive that cruises comfortably at most speeds.
All of the engines available for the Vauxhall Mokka are frugal and expel very little CO2. The 4×4 option does add more to the running costs for very little driving difference, so do consider the 2-wheel drive option to save on emissions and cost.
The new Vauxhall Mokka does what it sets out to and does so very well. It’s a great family car – spacious, comfortable and stylish with lots of boot space.
The combination of the gadgets and the glamorous design, mean this car starts at a higher price point (c. £14,000 for the standard model) than some of the others in its class, but rightly so as it has much more to offer.
We’re not surprised that there have been over half a million Vauxhall Mokka’s sold since it came onto the scene, and it has improved with every incarnation. We can’t wait to see what happens next, as to top this car is not going to be easy!
