Top ten sexiest cars
Cars shouldn’t just be about getting from A-B, nor should they be simply aimed at being practical with a disregard for looks or driveability.
There is a space in the car market for sexy cars that are simply fun to drive and turn heads wherever they go. Nowadays cars can have stunning looks but drive well as well. They can even be practical, spacious, luxurious and full of gadgets and equipment.
Below, we’ve listed some of the sexiest cars on the road today, and try to identify what makes them a head turner.
You can’t get sexier than a sleek, sporty coupe, and the new Peugeot RCZ is one of the most exciting cars to come from the French manufacture for a long time.
The unique double-bubble roof helps to blend French flair with genuine style and charm and is the perfect example of Peugeot pushing the boat out and embracing adventurous styling with its new sports coupe.
It is guaranteed to attract admiring glances from other road users and with a range of powerful and responsive engines, the Peugeot RCZ has the driveability to match its stunning looks.
Fashionable, stylish and, if the John Lennon-inspired advertising campaign is anything to go by, certainly not retro, the Citroen DS3 is triumph for the French manufacturer as it strives to re-launch the premium DS line of cars.
Citroen aimed for a customisable fashion accessory to rival the Mini Cooper and Fiat 500 and ended up with one of the sexiest three-door hatchbacks ever made, complete with a new, premium feel.
It was also awarded a place on the prestigious ‘Cool List’ compiled by Stuff Magazine. It was the only car to make the list, and even finished higher than the iPad, which is high praise indeed.
The Mazda MX-5 has been showered in awards since it was first released in 1989. Now onto its third generation, the MX-5 was given a facelift in 2009 and remains one of the sleekest, best-looking roadsters on the roads.
Updated Mazda styling gives the MX-5 a modern look without counteracting the classic MX-5 style and the model is a successful symphony of old and new.
It’s light, compact, affordable and stylish – and the low price doesn’t show in the build quality or nimble, light handling.
Alfa Romeo cars are traditionally a choice of heart over head and it’s no surprise to see an Alfa model on a list of top ten sexiest cars. The term ‘style’ could have been invented for Alfa, and particular the new Giulietta.
However, the new C-Segment Giulietta car, aimed at the family market, has managed to match typical Alfa soul with a solid package and a range of excellent engines.
The Giulietta is one of the most exciting cars of the year and is a triumph for the Italian manufacturer as it celebrates its centenary.
Expect much improved reliability and resale values, and the car even comes with a top five-star safety rating from the EuroNCAP tests.
Classic British car making has arguably never been better than the new Jaguar XFR. Jaguar has seen a revival in recent years, largely down to its, simple, handsome designs.
When they’re matched to a 503bhp supercharged V8 engine, the Jaguar XFR cements itself in the sexiest cars top ten with room to spare.
It’s luxurious, sporty, elegant and outrageously sexy. Sure, it comes at premium, but it is probably the best high-performance luxury saloon ever made.
Renault Megane CC
The Renault Megane is one of the more versatile models on the market today. While hatchback, estate and coupe versions offer quality and practicality, the new Coupe-Cabriolet version brings some style to the range.
The second generation model boasts a new glass roof, and looks much better than previous versions now the oversized rear end has been modified.
Excellent engines, a range of customisable interiors and a wind deflector to allow drivers to keep their dignity when enjoying an open-top journey are topped off by the stunning glass roof in Renault’s sexiest model.
Bear with us. The Ford Focus is not the first car you would associate with the word ‘sexy’ due to its near-ubiquitous presence, extreme reliability and well-engineered build.
However, the Focus shouldn’t lose out because of its popularity. The ride is superb and it is composed and planted at any speed. Ford’s kinetic design language and a range of powerful yet frugal engines give the Focus the entire package.
Any car that can inspire numerous rally cars and the fantastic Ford Focus RS and RS 500 would be at home on any list of sexy cars.
Sophistication matched with French passion and flair, the Citroen C6 shows a car doesn’t need to be a hot hatch or drop-top to be sexy.
It’s also the French marque’s most powerful car ever thanks to a new 3.0-litre V6 developing 240hp, although the C6 is not a performance vehicle.
Its unique, almost quirky design makes it a head-turner everywhere it goes. The large saloon also delivers an effortlessly smooth ride, swallowing bumps in the road with ease.
If you need a larger saloon but don’t want to sacrifice looks and style, the Citroen C6 stands out from the crowd.
The Fiat 500, the revived city car from the 50s, has been an unconditional success for the Italian manufacturer since its re-release.
The reasons are simple; it’s simple, retro and fun. It’s also an iconic, stylish, highly customisable and has the orders and awards to back this up.
Probably the most relevant however, is the Sexiest Car of All Time award from BBC television programme Top Gear. The Fiat finished ahead of Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Aston Martins to claim the award and according to presenter James May: "It advertises nothing about its owner, except that it’s someone who doesn’t need to try. So you look, and you know. You would, wouldn’t you?”
There are not many off-roaders with the prestige of a Land Rover, and chief amongst its range is the Range Rover. The 4×4 is quite simply a fantastic machine.
Inside, even entry-level Range Rovers are luxurious and well-built. The Range Rover is 40 years old this year, and it has been enhanced and revised over that time to provide a market leader in go-anywhere luxury.
