Stars drive road safety message home
The cast of Les Misérables will face the Phantom of the Opera team in their annual showdown. Brake has been chosen as one of the nominated charities this year because of one star’s personal connection with the charity. Jonny Purchase from Les Mis tragically lost his dad in a road crash.
The teams, from two of the West End’s biggest musicals, have already played four games previously, with the overall score standing at 2 – 2, so the stakes are higher than ever with this game being labelled “the decider”. This year’s match is being played on Sunday 7 August at Bromley Arena. Ex England star and current U21 manager Gareth Southgate will be managing the Les Mis team. Current England Women’s manager Mark Sampson will be managing the Phantom of The Opera side.
Some of the stars already confirmed for the big game are:
X-factor winner and star of the national tour of Chicago
– SAM BAILEY (Bexley)
Local lad and former Hollyoaks star Mark “Dodger” Savage – DANNY MAC (Bromley)
TV presenter – MATT JOHNSON (Caerphilly, Wales)
Hollyoaks actor “Joe Roscoe” – AYDEN CALLAGHAN (Aylesbury)
Jonny Purchase, currently staring as Feuilly in Les Misérables, said: “I lost my father in a motorcycle crash in 2002 and Brake did tremendous work for our family, helping and supporting us through that difficult time. The work Brake undertakes is so important in helping those who have been involved or have had loved ones involved in road traffic crashes.”
Community fundraising manager for Brake, Lisa Kendall, said: “We greatly appreciate being chosen as one of the two charities to benefit from this fabulous event. We wouldn’t be able to continue our life-saving work without the help of our fantastic fundraisers. Every penny raised will be put towards our work supporting families whose lives have been devastated by road crashes, and campaigning for safer roads“.
