See the Ford Focus RS in action ahead of its Goodwood debut!
Ahead of its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, a teaser video of the new Ford Focus RS in action has been released.
Showcasing the incredible performance capabilities of the new RS, the video shows it being put through its paces around Ford’s test track in Lommel, Belgium.
What follows is just over a minute of tyre-shredding, EcoBoost-powered action as Ford’s test driver throws it around the track, before packing it into a transporter to be shipped to Goodwood.
Goodwood debut this weekend
The latest and potentially greatest model to wear the legendary RS badge is due to make its spectacular first appearance at the festival, driven by rally legend Ken Block.
Easily one of the world’s most spectacular drivers, Ken’s rallying prowess and amazing Gymkhana videos have propelled him to fame, tying in with this year’s festival theme: ‘Flat-Out and Fearless’.
Despite being based on the regular Ford Focus hatchback, the new RS model is a completely new monster altogether, fitted with a more dramatic and muscular body kit for maximum downforce.
Kitted out with performance features like a bold upper grille and deep front splitter, the Ford Focus RS also features incorporated cooling vents, flared wheel arches and a large rear diffuser.
320bhp and four-wheel drive for maximum power
When it was first revealed, Ford claimed that it would generate 320bhp courtesy of a tuned version of the same 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine as the new Ford Mustang, but it’s likely got even hotter since.
Ford has fitted it with a new twin-scroll turbocharger, along with a four-wheel drive system requested specially by Ken Block, plus 19-inch lightweight alloys and optional racing tyres.
Real enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the new Focus RS also comes with a dedicated ‘Drift Mode’, which specially alters the traction control to wring out as much sideways action as possible.
Raj Nair, Ford’s vice president for global product development, said: “The all-new Focus RS is a serious machine with high-performance technology and innovative engineering that sets new benchmarks for driving exhilaration on the road and track.”
Along with the Drift Mode, drivers can select three other driving modes to deliver optimum performance for the environment, with a choice of Normal, Sport or Track settings.
Dedicated Drift Mode!
Each mode is selected via switch that sits beside the gear lever, and each has specific settings for the car’s all-wheel drive system, damper controls, steering and engine response, plus exhaust sound.
Pricing has yet to be released for the new Ford Focus RS, and it’s not due to arrive in the UK until next year at the earliest, but it’s due to make its debut at Goodwood this Thursday.
