NIssan Launches N-TEC Micra Offering More Tech for Less Cash

Nissan are launching a new N-TEC version of the Micra next month at the Frankfurt motor show, this technology laden super mini will sit in the existing model line up as a great value and very desirable techy option.

The Micra N-TEC

The N-TEC model will sit in neatly in the Micra model range between the Acenta and Tekna models, the aim of the launch is to bring some of the technology Nissan uses in more expensive models into an affordable package for more buyers to enjoy. It is all too common for car makers to leave all the really good technology in the top models, this is often because of the cost implications, but Nissan have found a way round this and the N-TEC has all the same toys as its bigger siblings.

What technology does it have?

The equipment list includes a lot of things but one of the big ones is a 5.8 inch full colour touch screen system. This screen is all part of the NissanConnect system which works as a SatNav, and also syncs to smart phones as well as offering the usual entertainment options. It also has a rather interesting feature called Google Send To Car, this allows users to plan a journey on their tablet or even a PC at work or at home and send it directly to the car from wherever they are.

The N-TEC is also choc full of other toys like rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights and automatic climate control. These kind of extras are normally more common on far more expensive cars and that is really the whole point of this exciting little car. But the fun doesn't end there, no, there is a lot more.

To help with parking the Micra N-TEC not only has rear parking sensors but also a system that measures up a parking space and lets you know if your car will fit in it. The system is called Parking Slot Measurement and for many people will prove a very useful indeed, especially when it is used in conjunction with the rear sensors. The idea is that you move along side a space and if the car says "yes" then you begin parking using the rear sensors to keep the manoeuvre safe. What is really clever about the Parking Slot Measurement system is that you can even set it to your own skill level with choices of amateur, normal or expert. Some people may find this system actually helps them get better at parking and they progress to expert level over time, who said parking wasn't fun?

Style and substance

Naturally it would be a shame to have all this technology inside and not make sure the N-TEC look the part from the outside but Nissan have made sure the N-TEC looks good too. The model comes with various exterior styling options like 16-inch allow wheels, fog lights and even rear privacy glass. Also to keep things looking cool there are matching colour coded door handles and door mirrors. There are some stylish additions inside too with a very sleek black gloss central console to help house all this tech and very cool blue stitching on the leather steering wheel and trim.

Starting at £12,400 the Micra N-TEC makes some serious technology seriously affordable, it looks cool and also comes with the usual range of great engines including the excellent 1.2 litre DIG-S which pumps out nearly 100 bhp. Nissan had a great idea with this car and have clearly delivered the goods.
