Could a hot hatch version of the Dacia Sandero be on its way?
A new teaser released by Renault’s sporting division has hinted at the possibility of a hot hatch version of the humble Dacia Sandero arriving in the UK.
With a tagline that simply states ‘There’s something new coming up. Get ready!’, the video from Renaultsport shows a camouflaged car titled the Renault Sandero R.S.
Camo-wrapped Sandero R.S. teased
Unfortunately, the hot version of Britain’s lowest priced car is currently only going to be available in Latin America, where Dacia models are instead badged as Renault cars.
However, the confirmation of the Sandero R.S. has started a frenzy of speculation that Dacia could be gearing up to release a hotter version of the Sandero for the UK market as well.
While performance is far from Dacia’s main selling point, given that the UK market is the best in the world for hot hatches, it could make sense that the Renault-owned marque could be considering a quicker Sandero.
Although Dacia’s image is typically that of a cost-effective and sensible manufacturer that makes cost-effective and sensible cars, it hasn’t been afraid to take a walk on the wild side now and again.
Last October, the company unveiled the Duster Oroch concept model based on the Duster SUV, which reimagined the Duster as an exciting and capable off-roading pickup truck.
According to designers, the Duster Oroch was inspired by the adrenaline-charged world of kitesurfing, with a unique satin white finishes and orange touches to highlight its bolshy personality.
With large bumpers for a more muscular appearance on the road, it also features a panoramic glass sunroof with fully-integrated roof rails, 18-inch alloys and two rear-mounted parking cameras.
The watersports theme continues on the interior with dark charcoal upholstery with fluorescent orange detailing. Door inserts, dashboard and seat details are also made from material that echoes the texture of a wetsuit.
New Laureate Prime trim level
Dacia also recently unveiled a new trim level for its range, Laureate Prime, which is available on all its Sandero, Duster and Logan models, which adds extra kit and a unique new finish.
While it’s still unclear whether or not an R.S. version of the Dacia Sandero will reach the UK, Dacia’s range is available to buy from Perrys dealerships now, priced from just £5,995 for the Sandero hatchback.
