VW to reveal new Golf
Volkswagen is set to unveil its new low emissions, low consumption Golf BlueMotion at next month's Frankfurt International Motor Show.The latest version of the popular hatchback is diesel-powered and comes with an engine management system that reduces the idling speed of the engine.
It also benefits from longer gear ratios in third, fourth and fifth, helping to reduce engine speed while driving, and improved aerodynamics.
The combined effect of these measures is that the Golf BlueMotion is capable of achieving 62.8 mpg and travelling 745 miles on a single tank of fuel, while emitting just 119 g/km of CO2, according to Volkswagen's researchers.
The new Golf will go on sale in Germany before the end of the year and is scheduled to arrive in British showrooms early in 2008.
Meanwhile, Adrian Rushmore, managing editor at EurotaxGlass's, has predicted that the possible introduction of an emissions-based sliding scale for the London Congestion Charge could result in improved sales of second hand low-polluting and hybrid cars.
