VW Golf 'most popular car in Europe'
The Volkswagen Golf is officially the most popular car in Europe again, it has been reported.Figures from Jato Dynamics revealed the model reclaimed its crown from the Ford Fiesta last month.
However, the auto information firm pointed out the vehicle that was knocked back down into second place is still performing well, along with a wide variety of other small cars.
The group suggested the popularity of more diminutive models may be a result of the vehicle scrappage schemes being introduced across the continent.
Out of the ten best-selling models last month, nine were segment B or C cars.
Jato chief David Di Girolamo stated: "National government scrappage schemes are really starting to have an impact both on the sales volumes in different markets and on the type of cars being sold."
Meanwhile, the UK's cash for bangers initiative comes into effect today, meaning buyers who are eligible to take part should be able to claim £2,000 off the price of a new car from manufacturers who have signed up to the programme.
