Volkswagen to release green Golf
Environmentally aware drivers who are keen to do their bit for the planet but do not want to compromise on performance may be interested to hear Volkswagen has released a new concept model.The Golf BlueMotion offers fuel consumption of 74.3 miles per gallon and carbon emissions of 99 grams per kilometre.
However, it can also reach 62 miles per hour (mph) in 11.3 seconds from resting and has a top speed of 117 mph.
Volkswagen says the new model matches the economy offered by the Polo BlueMotion which it describes as one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles available.
The BlueMotion label is awarded to the most economical Volkswagen model in each vehicle range.
Motorists who are keen to reduce their carbon footprint can choose between BlueMotion versions of the Golf Plus, Golf Estate, Golf Mk V, Touran, Sharan, Jetta, Passat and Passat Estate.
Volkswagen is due to release a new version of the Golf early next year and the BlueMotion model is expected to be available from the middle of 2009.
In other news, the car manufacturer recently revealed it had moved up to third place in terms of world sales, with 3.31 million vehicles delivered in the first half of 2008.
