Volkswagen announces record sales year
For the first time in its history, Volkswagen sold more than six million vehicles in a 12-month period, the firm has revealed.The company delivered some 6.19 million automobiles over the course of 2007, which marks a 7.9 per cent hike on figures collected for 2006.
Chairman of the board of management Martin Winterkorn stated that this marks a significant achievement for the automaker.
"Vehicle sales in excess of six million represent an important milestone for us. I am convinced our great cars, attractive prices and further models will help us to beat the record yet again this year," he said.
In addition, Volkswagen's brands also enjoyed a successful year, with Skoda selling 630,000 - an increase of 14.6 per cent.
Similarly, Audi sold some 964,000 units over the course of 2007.
The German Auto Association originally founded Volkswagen in 1937. The firm went on to achieve success with vehicles such as the Volkswagen Golf.
