Motorists 'need to consider their insurance needs carefully'
Whether you are buying a Volkswagen or a Vauxhall, it important to think about exactly what cover you require for your new motor, it has been claimed.The British Insurance Brokers' Association said drivers should not assume a policy includes certain features, pointing out some comprehensive cover does not provide protection against windscreen damage.
It stated simply going for the cheapest option could result in motorists having to shell out more later on.
The group explained people who do not get European cover will have to sort this out afterwards if they intend to take their car to the continent over the summer.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive, said motorists should think to themselves: "Ok, if I know it's going to cost fifty pounds extra if I go to France then I will bear that in mind when I get the quotes in the first instance."
Meanwhile, drivers who do intend to take their cars out of the UK may find their comprehensive cover is downgraded to third party only as soon as they leave British soil.
