Harvest hazards highlighted
Wherever drivers bought their auto from - be it a Vauxhall or Volkswagen car dealership - they may do well to take extra care on rural roads in the coming weeks.The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has claimed country lanes can prove particularly dangerous at this time of year.
It pointed out farmers up and down the UK are currently transporting their crops from the fields.
The organisation explained this can result in roads becoming muddier than they might normally be.
It warned this type of dirt is slippery and can cause cars to skid.
Chief examiner Peter Rodger said it is vital motorists pay close attention to the state of approaching surfaces.
"Statistically, rural roads are our most dangerous and observation is the key to safe driving," he remarked.
Last month, IAM warned people are also at risk of skidding if they take to roads with insufficient tyre tread depth.
