Futuristic new up! concept unveiled by Volkswagen
German automaker Volkswagen's has revealed the latest addition to its up! concept vehicle family.According to the manufacturer, the model is actually based on a 1950s vehicle – the Samba bus – although its futuristic fuel sourcing is anything but dated.
Volkswagen commented that it has employed pioneering technology to power the car and that it runs on 12 lithium-ion batteries linked to a high-temperature fuel cell.
It added that this method is more preferable to use than the low-temperature alternative.
"The high temperature version is far more efficient as it converts more of the energy in the hydrogen into electrical energy. Furthermore it is less complex and does not require the same cooling systems," Volkswagen commented.
Volkswagen was initially founded by the German Motor Association in 1937.
Since then, it has developed and sold popular cars such as the Golf and the Mini all over the world.
