Award-winning cars may tempt motorists into VW dealerships
Motorists looking for second-hand autos may be tempted to visit their local Volkswagen dealership, after hearing about the manufacturer's latest achievements.The group picked up two awards at the What Car? Used Car of the Year 2009 honours.
Claiming the overall crown was the Passat, which judges praised for its reliability, driveability and sophisticated appearance.
They also pointed out it is possible to pick up a three-year-old 1.9 TDI S edition of the auto for £7,000.
Meanwhile, the company's Golf GTI five-door was named Best Used Sports Car.
The awarding magazine's editor, Matt Sanger, acknowledged it is a difficult time for the second-hand vehicle market - with prices rising and availability limited.
However, he added: "Our winners are all cars that are readily available and still represent great value."
In other news, Volkswagen recently unveiled the Golf R at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.
The company described the vehicle as the fastest-accelerating, most powerful edition of the model ever.
