British car manufacturer Vauxhall has announced its latest move into the 4x4 sector of the motor industry, with a new off-road vehicle – the Antara.
With intelligent four-wheel drive and unique car-like driving ability, Vauxhall hopes the five seat, five-door SUV will catch the public's imagination after it's unveiled at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris at the end of the summer.
The exterior styling is trendy and sleek, with a high ground clearance and raised driving position. External dimensions are just larger than an Astra, at 4,570mm long and 1,850mm wide, although the overall presence of the car makes it seem a lot bigger.
Inside, the Antara has Tardis-like qualities, with plenty of room thanks to the design of its innovative internal structure. The driver has plenty of gadgets to play with and control, along with easy-to-read displays and up-to-date technology. Bluetooth and sat nav, for example, come as standard.
When the first of the Antaras roll into the UK next year, they will be powered by a highly fuel-efficient 2.0-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine, producing 150ps.
The official launch date for the UK is expected to be announced nearer the official European debut at the Paris show in September.
