Electric Vauxhall Ampera 'could be a leading light'
A new auto from Vauxhall could lead the way when it comes to environmentally-friendly vehicles, it has been suggested. What Car? magazine awarded the electric Ampera a green honour for its intelligent approach to reducing emissions.
The publication revealed it was impressed with the inclusion of an on-board petrol generator on the model.
It explained this feature would provide owners with peace of mind the vehicle could tackle long journeys, despite having a maximum electric-only range of 40 miles.
Steve Fowler, What Car? editor, stated: "Of the myriad of approaches to cutting CO2 from our cars, the Ampera's Voltec system is one of the cleverest."
However, motorists keen to test drive the model may want to hang on before heading down to their nearest Vauxhall dealership, as the vehicle is not due to be released in the UK until 2012.
In the meantime, drivers might choose to check out some other What Car? green award winners, such as the Fiat 500 Start&Stop.
