Drivers 'should think carefully before using price comparison sites'

All motorists - whether they buy their auto from a Volkswagen or Vauxhall car dealership - should think long and hard before purchasing insurance based purely on the recommendation of a price comparison website, it has been claimed.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association suggested people should focus on the quality of a policy rather than simply how much it costs.

It advised drivers to speak to a specialist and look at ways of protecting their no-claims bonus.

The group explained that brokers can help them get the most suitable cover for their needs.

Head of technical services Peter Staddon stated by turning to the web in order to purchase a policy, motorists may end up with protection that does not meet their requirements.

"When buying online, aggregator sites make assumptions and this can create problems," he said.

This comes after figures from the AA revealed car insurance premiums are rising at the quickest rate for almost a decade.
