Drivers advised on keeping cars running smoothly

Most motorists - whether they buy their vehicles from a Vauxhall or Volkswagen dealership - are keen to ensure their cars are as reliable as possible for as long as possible.

Recent advice from the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) may help drivers keep their wheels running smoothly throughout winter and into spring.

The group suggested now was a good time to make sure cars were in peak condition, as weather conditions at this time of year can make driving treacherous.

It recommended motorists check their batteries, replace worn windscreen wipers and use anti-freeze which is no more than two years old.

The organisation also advised vehicle owners to take their motors for a professional service.

RMIF director Sue Robinson said: "There are many elements within a car that will need the kind of professional attention that only a garage can provide."

Earlier this month, the motoring group said it was vital for the car industry the government took steps to improve consumer confidence in the UK.
