Vauxhall Vectra most popular car in July

The Vauxhall Vectra has been named as British motorists' most popular car during the month of July.

Vauxhall increased their sales of Vectra's by a staggering 263 per cent on the same period last year, shortly before the launch of the new Vectra, selling some 954 units to non-fleet customers through their retailers.

Vectra product manager Andrew Curley, said: "The boost in sales for New Vectra goes to show how successful last year’s improvements to the model were.

"The up-market new look and greatly improved driving dynamics have obviously proved a huge hit with buyers."

Value-for-money, particularly for the Exclusiv model was another factor cited for the Vectra's stunning success in July.

With prices starting at just £14,775 on-the-road for the 1.8i 16v VVT version, it comes with full-size curtain airbags, electric front windows, remote control deadlocking, a CD/stereo, electric heated door mirrors and air conditioning as standard.

Indeed, the Vectra's robust sales growth boosted Vauxhall's overall performance in the UK car market, making it the most popular for Britain's private buyers in July.

The firm privately sold some 7,458 units in July, putting it nearly 900 cars ahead of the monthly sales total for its nearest rival.

And Vauxhall does not expect sales growth to stagnate any time soon as the British manufacturer has a number of new launches up its sleeve.

In addition to the new Corsa due to go on sale in October, the new Astra TwinTop and Sport Hatch, the latest incarnations of the Zafira and Meriva and the stunning VXR range will all hit showrooms in the near-future.
