Vauxhall Vectra chosen for racing championship
The aerodynamic design of the Vectra has been listed as one of the reasons why VX Racing will adopt it for the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.This year, vehicles competing in the championship will have to adhere to the new Super 2000 rules, which require racing vehicle parts to be derived from their equivalent on standard models.
As a result of the changes, the racing brand tested several brands within the Vauxhall range to find the most competent model and have now settled on the Vectra.
"We've tested the various potential models - the Astra, Vectra and even the Corsa," explained Stuart Harris, VX Racing's brand manager.
"Technically and from an aerodynamic point of view we decided the Vectra gave us the best possibility."
The racing brand's decision underlines the performance element inherent in the Vectra.
Moreover, the regular TV exposure is expected to drive demand for the model among automotive racing enthusiasts and thrill-seekers.
