Vauxhall Corsa's frugality hailed by General Motors Europe's president

The boss of General Motors Europe has pinpointed the new Vauxhall Corsa as an example of how it intends to cut CO2 emissions across its range of vehicles.

Carl-Peter Forster, president of the company, made the comments during a press conference in Berlin to promote the automaker's conversion into a more eco-friendly manufacturer, according to Reuters.

Explaining what this means, he has pointed to the fact that the new 1.3-litre diesel Vauxhall Corsa will be capable of emitting 119 grams of CO2 per kilometre when it is launched next year.

And he has also stressed the business logic underpinning its move towards greener developments.

"This is a question [of] how can we sustain mobility," he said.

"It is for us more important that CO2 levels of our entire fleet is reduced than having single models with extremely good numbers."

Last month, Auto Express reported that the 1.6-litre petrol Corsa will be capable of accelerating from standstill to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds.

Meanwhile, the 1.7-litre turbodiesel version can apparently hit 60 mph in 9.3 seconds.
