Vauxhall Corsa in line for eco-friendly tax incentive

Buyers of the revamped Vauxhall Corsa could be in line to make sizable savings as well as fighting global warming.

Thanks to changes introduced by owners General Motors, the new Corsa will now be powered by a 1.3-litre CDTi engine that emits 119g of CO2 per km instead of 124g per km.

This means that the cost of an annual tax disc will fall for Corsa owners from £115 to £35.

Bill Parfitt, managing director at Vauxhall, explained the move was part of a wider eco-efficiency drive by the automaker's US owners.

"General Motors is investing heavily in alternative fuel strategies," he said.

"Today, we are making reductions in CO2 emissions wherever possible on our most popular model lines."

Last month, it was revealed that the Corsa touring car will be among the exhibits in an exhibition of motors at the Vauxhall Heritage Centre, Luton on June 10th 2007.
