Vauxhall Meriva is 'the original and the best'
The Vauxhall Meriva remains the best buy for drivers searching for a used supermini MPV, according to a motoring expert.Reviewing second-hand Merivas for the Sunday Times, Jason Dawe noted that practicality is one of the small car's strengths, as the rear seats can either be used to carry three adults or folded down to increase boot space to 1,410 litres.
The Meriva is also a "confident performer" both on the motorway and in towns, he commented, with ride and handling that are among the best in class and a range of engines that all perform well.
Mr Dawe's choice of second-hand models is the 1.7 CDTi Enjoy, but he also suggested that a Meriva with one of the "super-economical" 1.3 diesel engines introduced in 2006 would be a good buy.
Comparing the Meriva with the more recently launched Renault Modus and Nissan Note, Mr Dawe concluded: "In this battle the original still looks the best."
Meanwhile, Vauxhall's parent company General Motors has announced European sales of 574,000 vehicles during the second quarter of 2007, its best ever second-quarter figures.
