Vauxhall Corsa praised for frugality

The fuel economy of the latest Corsa has been praised in an independent automotive review.

As the sixth-generation of the long-running supermini brand, the new Corsa was given four stars out of five overall by online automotive specialists Netcars.

More specifically, the model received four stars in six of the nine categories covered, including handling, styling, roominess and value for money.

However, the maximum five-star rating was reserved for category entitled running costs.

"The Corsa promises to be one of the cheapest cars to run in the UK, thanks to a combination of strong fuel economy, cheap insurance and good value servicing from Vauxhall dealers," asserted the car reviewer.

Last month, the British-based automaker unveiled details of the forthcoming Corsa VXR model, which is expected to reach Vauxhall car dealerships in the UK in the middle of March 2007.

Powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, the company claims that the vehicle can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 140 mph.
