Vauxhall Corsa demand 'driving GM recovery'
The automaker General Motors (GM) has cited European demand for the new Vauxhall Corsa as one of the reasons for its improving financial results.Statistics for the third quarter of 2006 show that the company posted profits on an adjusted basis, excluding special purchases.
Moreover, the carmaker reports that it has reduced net losses to $115 million (£61 million) from last year's comparable figure of $1.7 billion.
Rick Wagoner, chief executive of the business, said that its "turnaround in Europe" was helping the firm to recover and singled out the importance of the new Corsa.
"The newly launched Opel/Vauxhall Corsa is on track to exceed its 2006 objectives, with approximately 130,000 orders already placed in Europe," Mr Wagoner said.
The Vauxhall name has strong ties with the Opel brand in Europe, as both marquees offer near-identical vehicle models to motorists.
Both automotive companies are owned by General Motors and form the main part of its European strategy.
