Vauxhall Astra racing driver teaches the next generation
Touring car driver Tom Chilton, who competes in a specially-modified version of the Vauxhall Astra, has been giving tips to kids who dream of following in his footsteps.Chilton is one of the MSA British Touring Car Championship 2007 drivers for the VX Racing team and, to promote the competition, he recently took part in the inaugural British Schools Karting Championship final in London.
And he is arguably well-placed to pass on knowledge to the next generation - Chilton remains the youngest ever competitor to win a touring car championship race.
And Vauxhall's star driver told kids about what it takes to make it to the top of the pile.
"You have to be fast, present yourself well and be good with sponsors," he said.
"In this world, you need contacts so my best advice is to start making them as early as possible."
Chilton, who made his senior touring car debut in the Vauxhall Astra Coupe in April 2002, has since gone on to win six races and accumulate a career total of 512 points in 124 races.
