Mazda MX-5 tops reliability survey

The Mazda MX-5 has been named the most reliable convertible on the UK market by a new survey.

Warranty Direct's Reliability Index compares cars by calculating the cost of repairs versus the number of visits to the garage.

The MX-5 topped the table with an index rating of 7.29 compared to the average score for a convertible of 116.6, while the Mazda's average repair bill was £255.59, which is £146.05 lower than the sector norm.

The results of the survey were no surprise to the people who compiled the data, as in a worldwide study of 450,000 cars earlier this year, Warranty Direct found Mazda to be the most reliable brand.

Mazda recently celebrated the manufacture of its 40 millionth car when an all-new Mazda 2 rolled off the production line at its plant near Hiroshima.

The new Mazda 2 is almost 100 kg lighter than its predecessor, helping it to achieve class-leading fuel consumption figures of 52.3 mpg.
