Los Angeles Auto Show welcomes Lohner-Porsche

Automaker Porsche will be showcasing its past as well as its future at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The manufacturer will be displaying the Lohner-Porsche, which it believes to be the earliest example of hybrid drive, this week.

Originally unveiled to the world at the 1900 Paris World Fair, the model will be making its first appearance outside of Europe.

To contrast, Porsche will also be showing off its new high-technology Cayenne Hybrid, which the company stated carries the torch of its distant relative.

But those looking to get behind the wheel of the latest model will have to wait until 2010, as only a prototype version will make it to the exhibition.

The Lohner-Porsche was designed by 24-year-old engineer Ferdinand Porsche, who went on to found the automaker in 1931.

Its first distributed model, the Porsche 64, went on sale eight years later.
