Eco-friendly car sales at Toyota top 100,000
Toyota has sold more than 100,000 hybrid vehicles in Europe since they were first launched seven years ago.Some 101,235 of the firm's environmentally-friendly cars have been wheeled away by consumers from 2000, with its Prius model being driven by over 73,000.
Lexus, a subsidiary of the company, has also reportedly shifted more than 27,000 of its eco-saving vehicles.
The Japanese manufacturer stated that 50 per cent of its uptake has been from over the last 13 months, which may show the continent's commitment to cut carbon emissions.
Executive vice president of Toyota Motor Europe Thierry Dombreval commented that Europe was becoming "cleaner".
"These results demonstrate a dramatic shift amongst European customers towards cleaner vehicles which offer greater fuel efficiency and a comfortable and powerful drive," he said.
Toyota owns 522 subsidiaries, including Lexus, which was first established by the firm in 1989.
In terms of revenue, Toyota is the world's largest automobile manufacturer.
