Alfa Romeo Brera declared Best Sports/Coupe

The Alfa Romeo Brera has been recognised by an independent automotive publication, car buyers may be interested to know.

At the Car of the Year Awards from motoring magazine What Diesel Car?, the model fought off the challenge of rivals the Honda Civic Type S and the BMW 335D to be named Best Sports/Coupe.

The car is reportedly capable of achieving 142 mph on an open road and one of the presiding judges highlighted the Brera's level of performance.

"Drive this and lose your heart," he said. "It'll be the start of a nerve-tingling, smile-inducing, mind-warping love affair."

Meanwhile, a second judge reserved praise for its aesthetic attractions, declaring that "for visual impact, the Brera is the clear class leader".

Earlier this month, Alfa Romeo enthusiasts were given their first glimpse of the 422bhp Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7 Super.

The high-performance model was designed by advanced motoring developer Autodelta and took centre stage at the Spa-Francorchaps grand prix circuit in Belgium during an Italian car showcase.
