Seat today demonstrated its faith in its diesel engines by becoming the first team to enter a diesel car in a FIA World Touring Car Championship event.
The meeting at the Scandinavian Raceway at Anderstorp, Sweden on July 28th and 29th 2007 will see both Jordi Gene and Yvan Muller drive Leons powered by engines derived from the 170 PS 2.0-litre TDI featured in the Leon FR.
Jaime Puig, director of Seat Sport, said he is confident the diesel engine will help to increase the team's competitiveness as it seeks to overhaul BBMW in the race for the manufacturers' title.
"The regulations allow us to register a car equipped with a diesel engine and we were happy to rise to the challenge," said Puig.
Seat recently reported record sales figures for the 12 months to June 2007, after selling 17,839 vehicles to secure a 1.41 per cent share of the UK car market.
