Seat Altea branches out into SUV territory
Owners of the Seat Altea who are expecting new additions to the family may be interested to know that the Spanish automaker is showcasing a new sports utility vehicle (SUV) that bears the familiar brand name.The Seat Altea Freetrack Prototype, which is the company's first foray into the SUV segment, is powered by a 2-litre TFSI engine and comes with four wheel drive for added power.
Commenting at the unveiling of the prototype during the Geneva motor show, Seat's president Erich Schmitt explained both the company's reasons for developing a 4x4 and why he believed it would stand out from the crowd.
"This prototype comes in response to the increasing demand for 4x4s," he said.
"The Altea Freetrack Prototype is an excellent 4x4 - a roomy family car with enormous load capacity and a true sports car."
Launched in 2004, the existing Seat Altea is a five-door compact multi-purpose vehicle that received a maximum five star adult occupancy safety rating in tests for the European New Car Assessment Programme.
