The Paris Motor Show is to see the unveiling of a new, larger model Seat Altea MPV this September, although the Spanish manufacturer is playing it cool about any new specifications the car may feature.
While Seat are not revealing any further details on the new Aktea MPV, speculation is rife that Seat has developed a seven-seat version of the popular people carrier.
Industry experts do not believe that Seat could fit an additional pair of folding seats into the existing five-seat model, so will have either extended the wheelbases or the cars rear overhang to accommodate them.
However, of the two a longer reach overhang is considered to be the most likely option as it is easier to produce, similarly to the way in which Renault transformed its five-seat Scenic into the seven-seat Grand Scenic.
Seat said that a larger Altea would lend it the flexibility it currently lacks, and would help it to compete in the MPV market where rivals include the Mazda 5, Toyota Verso, Grand Scenic and the Volkswagen Touran.
Meanwhile, Citroen is also to unveil a seven-seat MPV at the Paris Motor Show, fitting in between the five and eight-seat models it currently offers.
