Motorists 'should check European insurance'
Whether motorists own a Rover or a Renault, it is vital they check the small print of their car insurance policy before taking their auto abroad, it has been suggested.According to Sheilas Wheels, too many people are simply assuming they will be afforded the same level of protection overseas as they are in the UK.
However, it warned this was not always the case and urged drivers to contact their providers.
Spokesperson Jacky Brown said: "With the school holidays fast approaching, this may be the last thing on parents' minds - but it's crucial to plan ahead."
Research by Sheilas Wheels revealed 15 per cent of motorists take it for granted they will have comprehensive cover on the continent.
The study also found 90 per cent of holidaymakers do not check with their provider before leaving to see if this is the case.
Earlier this year, a survey by moneysupermarket.com showed almost half of UK drivers are confused when it comes to the level of protection their insurance provides in Europe.
