Perrys’ donation helps keep local school kids safe

Leading motor retailer, Perrys, with Peugeot and Fiat dealerships on Walton Road, Farlington, is helping to ensure local school children are kept safe and seen on the region’s roads with a donation of 35 highly reflective vests to a local school in Portchester.

According to the department of Transport, approximately 14,000 youths under the age of 16 were injured or killed in pedestrian or pedal cycle incidents in 2004. These accidents account for more than 50% of all road casualties amongst under 16 year olds in Great Britain. It is believed that many of these accidents could have been avoided if children were more conspicuous to other road users.

Mike Sandall, dealer principal of Perrys Portsmouth, explained why the dealership provided the jackets: “ As a leading motor organisation, Perrys understands how important it is for children to be safe and be seen, and these easy to use, highly reflective vests were an ideal way to ensure that kids are safer when out and about.”

The vests are ideal for school children to wear when they walk near traffic, cross roads, ride bikes and they can even be used as team bibs in sport.

Road safety is important but another benefit is that a child in a high visibility vest can be seen to be part of a group on a field trip – making them ideal for use in any public place.
