Portsmouth TSO Competition Winner
For Horndean resident, Hannah Griffen, getting to grips with the theory test proved to be the best part of learning to drive, winning her a brand new Peugeot 206.Hannah won the 206 in The Stationery Office's (TSO) Win a Car Competition which it runs in The Official DSA Theory Test for Car Drivers Book and CD-ROM. She said: "I can't believe that I've won the competition I mean, you always here about someone else winning, but never think it will actually be you."
TSO Marketing Manager, Lisa Hobart, commented: "TSO ran this competition to encourage responsible driving and also a greater awareness of The Highway Code and other topics that learner drivers will face in their theory test."
Emphasising the importance of safety is always a theme in the competition as, to be in with a chance of winning, Hannah had to correctly answer three questions relating to the Highway Code and road safety. She continued: "I'd been studying to take my theory test as I wanted to have a full licence before going to university. When I saw the competition, I thought I'd have a go as it would be nice to head off to university with a brand new car."
Hannah collected her car from Perrys Peugeot on Walton Road, Farlington. General Manager, Bob Wright, commented: "The new 206 is a fantastic vehicle. Not only does it have a sporty flare and stylish design, it is extremely safe, receiving a high rating on its NCAP testing. I hope that Hannah gets years of stress free and enjoyable motoring out of it."
Hannah's dad Colin couldn't be happier. He said: "Although Hannah is a careful driver, knowing that she will be driving a vehicle like the 206 gives us that little added piece of mind that she will be safe on the roads."
Understanding and adhering to the Highway Code is an important step in the path to safe and responsible driving and research shows that those who know their Highway Code are much less likely to be involved in an accident than those who don't.
Road Safety Minister, Jim Fitzpatrick, said: "The Official Highway Code is for life, not just for passing your driving test. It is a crucial tool for all road users - car drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians alike - and applies to every stage of your life. Road safety is a responsibility we all share and everyone should have a copy of the Code to keep their knowledge up-to-date."
When was the last time you read The Highway Code? Would you be able to answer three theory test questions correctly?
Question 1 - What is the nearest distance in metres you may park to a junction?
Answer - 10 metres
Question 2 - How old must you be to supervise a learner driver?
Answer - At least 21 years old
Question 3 - You have driven through a flood. What is the first thing you should do?
Answer - Test your brakes
Do you need to brush up your knowledge? If so, TSO has just published the first revised Highway Code in eight years. The updated Code offers the latest road safety rules and advice, as well as promoting greater courtesy and understanding among all road users, particularly those who are most vulnerable. A new Safety Code for Novice Drivers, to help motorists better navigate their first few months behind the wheel, has also been added.
The Official Highway Code, RRP £2.50 and The Official DSA Theory Test for Car Drivers Book RRP £12.50 are both published by TSO (The Stationery Office Ltd.). Visit www.tsoshop.co.uk/dsa or call 0870 600 5522. Copies are also available from all good High Street and online bookstores.
