Portsmouth Sales Manager

Perrys Peugeot on Walton Road, Farlington, has just appointed Ian Newman to the position of Sales Manager. Armed with more than a decade's worth of experience, Ian has big plans for the future of the dealership.

"The motor industry is extremely competitive. The perceptions about brand and quality are blurring as all manufacturers are offering a wider variety of vehicles of similar quality at affordable prices," commented Ian. "In order to stand out, you need to offer customers more than just a car, you need to offer a great service. I plan to make this the core part of my strategy going forward, making customer satisfaction our number one priority."

To achieve this, Ian plans to focus on three key areas:

1. Ensure all staff receive the appropriate training and support to enable them to meet the needs of customers effectively; and resolve any arising issues in a professional and speedy manner.
2. Implement a low-pressure approach to sales, ensuring that customers are offered all the information they require without being left feeling that a car has been thrust upon them.
3. Ensure that service levels are maintained right through the cycle of ownership, from selection, to purchase and into aftersales. The aim is to make owning a vehicle with Perrys as enjoyable as the initial purchase.

Ian's customer focused approach has developed as a direct result of his own experience. "I've been working in the motor industry for more than 12 years now. During that time I've come to understand and appreciate what it is that customers are looking for from a motor retailer as well as how to ensure each customer receives the level of service they deserve."

Ian Joined Perrys Peugeot in 1995 as a trainee sales executive. From there he moved into a senior sales role, before taking the position of new car controller. He continued: "I did leave Perrys briefly in 2000 to work as an installation manager, but soon realised that my true passion was for cars, so decided to return to Perrys as a new car controller."

After two years working as a new car controller, Ian moved into a sales controller role, before applying for the Sales Manager position. "Perrys has always supported my career development, offering training and support. As my role as Sales Controller grew, and I took on more responsibility, I felt that the next logical step would be to Sales Manager.

Now, as Sales Manager, Ian will not only be taking an active role in the implementation of processes designed to improve customer service, he will also be involved in monitoring stock cycles to ensure Perrys has more of the vehicles Portsmouth residents are looking for when buying a new Peugeot.

Of course, the fact that Perrys vehicles are incredibly competitive also helps. With 0% finance on many vehicles, buy now pay next year and a recent drop in the base rate of borrowing, the dealership is ideally placed to exceed expectations in every respect.

Ian added: "I want to make sure that every visitor to the Perrys showroom receives a professional service from a fully qualified sales executive, so that we can lead the way, in terms of price, quality and, importantly, service."
