PORTSMOUTH CHARITY SUMMER BALL

Fundraising never looked this good...

The first ever Portsmouth Charity Summer Ball - tipped to be the fanciest night of the Portsmouth summer season- is set for August 24th. The event, which has been planned in association with Perrys Peugeot and Fiat on Walton Road, Farlington, will be held in aid of the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK, in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for the charities.

The Charity Summer Ball, which will be held at the Marriot Hotel on Culver Parade, is an exclusive black tie evening, which promises to be as fun as it is posh. Beginning at 7:30pm, guests will be invited to seat for a three course set meal, where they will be wined and dined in total luxury in the hotel’s Mary Rose Suite. After desert, local singer Shirin will be giving an exclusive performance before the start of the charity raffle, which includes some great prizes. Capping off the Ball is a disco until 1am.

The event, which aims to raise over £1,500 for the charities, is the brainchild of Portsmouth resident Gemma Sech, 22. She explained: “Today cancer and heart disease are two of the most common illnesses affecting the British population. The reason I decided to host a Ball, instead of something slightly more low-key, is that, as well as raising money for the charities, I want to raise awareness.”

Both the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK are critical bodies in the fight against these two illnesses. In the last few decades the charities have been at the forefront of advances in both treatment and prevention of cancer and heart disease as well as in finding ways to cure and eliminate them all together.

Gemma continued: “This Ball would not be possible without the generous support of event sponsor, Perrys Fiat and Peugeot. Without its upfront contribution of £450, I would not have been able to secure the venue.”

Perrys became involved after Gemma, who has connections with the dealership, visited general manager Bob Wright to explain what she had planned. He said: “We were delighted that Gemma would invite Perrys to sponsor her charity ball. Cancer Research and the British Heart Foundation both do extremely important work in the fight against two serious illnesses which, together, still cause approximately 358,491 deaths every year in Britain alone.”

The dealership has also purchased five tickets to the event. Bob added: “Both myself and the team are looking forward to the evening, which will hopefully raise plenty of money for the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.”

Tickets for the Portsmouth Summer Charity Ball cost £27 each, with all profits going straight to the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK in equal measure.
