Peugeot joins the police
Northumbria Police will be using a number of Peugeot vans in their frontline duties in the future, it has been reported. The manufacturer revealed 12 four-tonne Boxer models will transport officers to events such as football matches, demonstrations and parades.
Kevin Wilson, fleet manager at Northumbria Police, said there were a number of reasons the force has decided to go with the Peugeot vans.
He pointed out the vehicles have a strong front axle which means weight can be distributed more evenly.
In addition to this, Mr Wilson explained the vans will often need to carry nine officers so they wanted a model that is comfortable and safe.
"Peugeot's simple one-stop-shop service was also very appealing, as it made the purchasing process as simple and straightforward as possible," he added.
Meanwhile, the manufacturer recently described its new 5008 as an "innovative people carrier".
The model will be available in both five and seven-seat versions and buyers will be able to choose between six power-train options.
