More people bought the Peugeot 207 on the continent than any other model last month, it has been revealed.
According to data from business intelligence specialist Jato Dynamics, there were 40,446 new 207s registered across Europe in May 2007 - the only car to break the 40,000 sales threshold.
And the supermini ranked ahead of the Ford Focus, the Volkswagen Golf and the Fiat Punto in terms of total sales, reports Motor Trader.
Nasir Shah, international sales and marketing director at Jato Dynamics, has commented on the reason behind the popularity of these models.
"Those manufacturers with aggressive product development strategies continue to reap the rewards," he said.
"The strong sales performances posted by the new Peugeot 207 and Fiat Grande Punto are testament to this."
Earlier this month, Peugeot announced plans for a new variant of its popular supermini to be launched in the UK this summer.
The 207 SW incorporates an additional 55 litres of luggage capacity compared to the five-door hatchback.
