The Peugeot 207 was the biggest selling car in Europe during the first half of 2007, according to figures released today.
Peugeot's supermini sold 237,722 units in the past six months to be named as Europe's most popular new car in statistics compiled by Jato Dynamics.
The 207 was also Europe's best seller during June, with the 42,187 units sold representing an increase of 70 per cent on the sales figures for the same month last year.
Sales of the 207 were all the more impressive, as Jato's figures showed that total car sales in Europe dropped by 0.9 per cent in the first half of the year.
Nasir Shah, international sales and marketing director for Jato, said the overall picture for carmakers is challenging, but added: "It's clear to see from the performances of individual brands that there are still opportunities for growth."
The 207 was welcomed with impressive reviews following its launch last year, with Parker's describing it as "roomy, well-equipped and attractively styled" and What Car? magazine commenting that it is a "brilliant all-rounder, with a desirable image, high-quality cabin and smooth drive".
