Although the nation cannot wait for the new Peugeot 207 model to be launched this year, demand for the 206 remains high. The ever-popular 206 model now looks determined not to roll over and die in the face of the younger 207, but is forcing Peugeot bosses to continue producing the car while demand remains. The 206 supermini has been a firm favourite with UK customers since its launch, although Peugeot is gearing up for the release of the amazing new 207 to take its place. In a compromise, the French manufacturer is planning to offer a smaller range of engine sizes and choices, with just the 75bhp 1.4-litre petrol and 70bhp 1.4-litre diesel engine versions still planned for production. Although prices are unlikely to drop below the starting rate of £8,195, Peugeot is hoping the 206 can sit snugly in between the cheaper 107 city car range, at £7,145, and the new 207 which is likely to start at £8,995. And although the arrival of the 207 may put a slight dent in the 206's sales, it will certainly not sound the death-knoll for the funky little supermini.
