X-Trail off to strong start in Japan

Orders for the Nissan X-Trail SUV car have surpassed expectations in Japan.

The vehicle has performed above what the firm had initially hoped - shifting some 5,900 units within a week of the model being made available.

This is almost triple the 2,000 the Japanese company was predicting to sell during the entire month, with diamond black, diamond silver and burning red the most popular colours.

Features of the X-Trail comprise four-wheel drive (4WD), controlled via an electronic system, in addition to enhanced utility and a spacious exterior.

"At the core of X-Trail's appeal to customers is a genuine SUV and the expected mix for the 4WD versions is higher than 90 per cent," Nissan commented.

Nissan first introduced the X-Trail range in 2001, marking the company's first crossover SUV, coming at a time when a number of other manufacturers were looking to enter the market.
