Scrappage scheme boosts Nissan sales

More people may have been making their way to Nissan dealerships up and down the country over recent weeks, if the latest news from the company is anything to go by.

The firm has revealed its Sunderland plant will be taking on more workers to cope with the demand generated by the government's vehicle scrappage incentive scheme.

Some 100 additional members of manufacturing staff are to be offered four-month contracts and Nissan stated it would make every effort to re-recruit those employees who recently lost their jobs when the company was forced to downsize.

Kevin Fitzpatrick, the Sunderland facility's deputy managing director, stated: "The short-term spike in demand being delivered by all scrappage incentives is providing a valuable shot in the arm during a difficult period."

He added the Note and Micra were proving particularly popular under the cash for bangers initiative.

In other news, the Nissan Qashqai recently became one of the UK's top ten best-selling autos.
